Celebrate 35 Years of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Disability Pride Month on July 25 at Avenue A Park with Beyond Barriers

We're partnering with the City of Hutchinson Human Relations Commission, and inviting the Hutchinson community to join in a celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on Friday, July 25, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Avenue A Park, 100 S Main St, Hutchinson, KS.

This free, family-friendly event is open to all and will feature games, activities for kids, free food, and disability simulation experiences designed to expand awareness and inclusion. The celebration will honor the legacy and continued importance of the ADA, a groundbreaking civil rights law signed into effect on July 26, 1990, which prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in employment, public accommodations, transportation, and more.

“I really hope that people get an understanding of the Americans with Disabilities, and understand that it's a very important piece of legislation,” said Anthony Frischenmeyer, Employment Specialist with Beyond Barriers. “Everybody is in what we call a TAB, which is a temporarily-abled body. What that means is at any given second, we could step outside today and be hit by a car, and we are now disabled. So that is why the ADA is so important to me, and should be to all of us. I hope people just come and get a sense of community, they get to interact and maybe meet somebody that they've never met and maybe walk in the shoes of somebody they’ve never walked in.”

Join us as we commemorate this milestone and continue working toward a more accessible, inclusive Hutchinson for all! See more on the Facebook Event page: https://www.facebook.com/share/15WfJd9nH1/
